An IVA (Individual Voluntary Arrangement) is a legally binding arrangement supervised by a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner the purpose of which is to enable an individual/couple to reach a compromise with his/her/their creditors and avoid the consequences of bankruptcy. The IVA is a legally binding contract, normally lasting 60 months, which includes all unsecured creditors as notified and included in the IVA to prevent any enforcement action against the debtor/s as long as the agreed arrangement is maintained.

In Scotland the debt solution is known as a Trust Deed and follows the same general principles detailed above with the exception being that the maximum term is usually 3 years.
